Pratapgarh: A wanted robber carrying a Rs 50,000 cash reward on his head was injured and arrested by a joint team of Sangramgarh, Maheshganj police and the Special Operations Group (SOG) near Sanda Harshpur canal road early Wednesday, police said.Govind Gautam (28) of Nawabganj (Prayagraj) was admitted to the district hospital for treatment. The cops also recovered one country made pistol of 0.315 bore along with one live cartridge and another used one, a bike and looted gold jewelry from his possession. Police said as many as 10 cases were pending against Gautam in different police stations of Prayagraj, Bhadohi and Pratapgarh. The team received a tip-off about his movement near Nahar Patri road and cordoned off the area. Later, the team had a gunfight with the criminal that left him injured. Police said Gautam along with his accomplices had thrashed and looted a jeweler near Sangramgarh on July 28. Following the incident, an FIR under sections 309(4), 311, 115(2), and 351(3) of BNS was registered. Police also claimed that the same gang looted a jeweler near the Maheshganj area on June 30. Police have been looking for Gautam for a long time as he was operating a robbers’ gang on the border areas of Pratapgarh and Prayagraj. Meanwhile, Pratapgarh police claimed to have arrested an absconding rape accused Sunil Kumar Rajak (44) from Rajasthan. The accused has been evading police for the past 14 years and also carrying a Rs 25,000 cash reward on his head. Police said Rajak was absconding since 2011 as he was wanted in connection with a case registered under section 376 and 506 of IPC with Patti police station. The accused took shelter in Purwas Colony, Sagwara in Rajasthan.
